Whale Watching From Above Flight
Enjoy whale watching from a different perspective – 2,500 feet (762 m) in the air aboard a microlight aircraft. Because you don't disturb the whales, this tour is the most effective way to see the fascinating whale migrations in Byron Bay.
Make your way to Tyagarah Airfield and listen to the pre-flight safety briefing before you put on your flying suit, helmet and intercom headset. Then hop aboard the microlight aircraft, a 2-seater fixed-wing aircraft with an open cockpit.
Take to the air with your experienced pilot and fly across Byron Bay to watch the migration of humpback whales. These whales move north after feeding all summer in Antarctica. As they head toward their winter breeding grounds, they pass through Cape Byron, making Byron Bay one of Australia's premier whale-watching locations.
Depending on whale movements, your flight will cover areas from Brunswick to Lennox Head. From above, you get the chance to see these individual whales in small groups, quite often with their calves, and observe their behaviour over a long-distance swim.
Your flight is designed to ensure that these whales are not being disturbed while still providing you with an unforgettable experience. After whale watching from this exhilarating perspective, your pilot takes you back to Tyagarah Airfield.
