The Byron Farmers’ Market, which began in 2002, is one of the most popular in the area. They are held every Thursday morning, beginning at 8:00am and finishing up around 11:00am. The markets are held on the Butler Street Reserve.
The Byron Bay Farmers’ Market loves supporting local producers. Purchasing food that is locally grown means that the produce does not have to be transported long distances. The produce is fresher, and more delicious!
This Farmers’ Market has a variety of stalls, some of which are organic, and other which are conventional local producers. The Byron Farmers’ Market Association (who also run the Bangalow Farmers’ Market, which takes place Saturday mornings from 8am until 11am) work closely along side farmers and producers to ensure the that products are sold for a fair price, while still maintaining a sustainable business venture for stall owners.
The great thing about shopping at the Byron Bay Farmers Market is that the fresh produce available is constantly changing with the seasons; that being said, there are a few products that are available all year round. These range from freshly squeezed sugar cane juice and macadamia nuts, to prime cuts of beef and prawns that have been farmed in Ballina. You will also find kitchen staples, like bread, coffee, honey, and olives.
With a group of local farmers that are ever growing, the Byron Bay Farmers’ Market is a must. The Market has is a unique and much loved part of the Byron community, where locals and visitors can discuss community issues, and explore all the delicious products that the Byron Shire has to offer.
