Musical Theatre Production Show at Circus Arts Byron Bay

These school holidays enjoy the wondrously inventive production of the family favourite Peter Pan Jr at Circus Arts in Byron Bay! A spectacle of music, song, dance and circus feats, the production promises to be a delight for adults and children alike.

Based on J.M. Barrie’s classic tale and featuring an unforgettable score by Morris “Moose” Charlap and Jule Styne with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh and Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Peter Pan is one of the most beloved and frequently performed family favourites of all time.

This high-flying Tony Award-winning musical has been performed around the world and delighted audiences for 60 years.  Having been specially adapted for young performers, the youth of the Byron Shire will be bringing it all to life. All with the help of the talented crew at Circus Arts Byron Bay these school holidays!

Peter and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinkerbell, visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night. With a sprinkle of pixie dust, they begin a magical journey across the stars that none of them will ever forget. In the adventure of a lifetime, the travellers come face to face with a ticking crocodile and a fierce Indian tribe. They also have to face a band of bungling pirates and, of course, the villainous Captain Hook.

Producer, Director and Choreographer, Adrienne Megan Lester (Meg) of Platform Productions Australia commented:

“With a 27-strong cast of young people aged 6 to 16 from across the Byron Shire, this is the first time Circus Arts has staged a full-scale musical theatre production, so it’s very exciting for us all. The circus arena has provided a playground with seemingly limitless potential where other earthly boundaries of physicality usually exist. Its ability for creative exploration is a rare privilege for a director of a theatre, and I’ve enjoyed the process very much.”

“Many of the performers are new to the circus and over a 6-month rehearsal process, they have developed a great deal of strength and many new skills.  We have a double cast for most characters to give all our performers experience and the chance to shine.”

“Audiences, both young and old can expect a riot of magic, music, imagination and circus surprises,” she concluded.

Featuring the iconic songs, “I’m Flying,” “I’ve Gotta Crow,” “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Never Never Land,” and a rousing book full of magic, warmth and adventure, Peter Pan JR. is the perfect show for the child in all of us… who dreamed of soaring high and never growing up. Peter Pan JR. will be delighting audiences through the July school holidays, right here at Circus Arts, Byron Bay!
