FESTIVAL OF THE STONE TO TAKEOVER STONE & WOOD’S NEW BREWERY ON JUNE LONG WEEKEND

As the first-ever event inside the space, Festival of the Stone 2019 will take over Stone & Wood’s new brewery in Byron Bay on Saturday 8 June from 3.00pm til 10.00pm with live bands, food trucks and fresh beer.

As part of the independent brewery’s biggest annual beer and music festival fundraiser, Stone & Wood is soon to reveal an exciting music line-up, with bands like Kingswood, Polish Club, Last Dinosaurs and Tropical Zombie playing at past events.

Opened in December 2018 with a greater capacity than the former brewery, the new Stone & Wood brewery and Tasting Room will accommodate the biggest Festival of the Stone to date, with food trucks, their Malt Disney kids’ area and beers pouring from their dedicated beer truck and Troopie, Clyde and Trevor.

The Music

Melbourne-based songwriter Alex Lahey played an epic gig at last year’s Splendour in the Grass following her triple j Unearthed success, while her album I Love You Like A Brotherlanded on several ‘albums of the year’ lists around the country. Energetic, super fun and with a new album, The Best of Luck Club, under her belt, we’re stoked to welcome Alex to Festival of the Stone!

With her ethereal voice and funky neo-jazz electronica, artist and producer Alice Ivy has supported major international acts including Foster the People, Billie Eilish and Flight Facilities, and has performed at our favourite festivals around the country, including Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival. Her dreamy tracks will set the ultimate backdrop to a starry festival night.

Local favourite soul queen Lisa Hunt – who’s worked with the likes of Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Tina Arena and Macy Gray – will also light up the stage with her soaring vocals and funk and soul tracks. Once a closing act for Byron Bay Bluesfest, Lisa makes light work of pulling people onto the floor.

Also on the line-up is the 28-man ‘Russian’ choir from Mullumbimby, Dustyesky, who came together as a group with a love of vodka and Russian folk music, and later became a national Russian news story. Meanwhile, besides a few live DJs, there’ll be rock n’ roll for the young ones with the head-banging Bunny Racket.

Besides the music, we’ll have beer pouring from our beer truck Clyde and Troopie Trevor, food trucks Gunter’s Flammkuchen, Pocket Curries, Spice Pirate BBQ and Zicatela serving up delicious meals and our dedicated kids area Malt Disney complete with entertainment from Spaghetti Circus.

A family-friendly community event, last year the Festival raised $17,000 for Stone & Wood’s national not-for-profit the inGrained Foundation, which it donated to Northern Rivers-based Big Scrub Landcare. This year, all event profits will again go to the inGrained Foundation for donation to a local charity, yet to be announced.

General tickets go on sale Thursday 16 May at 9.00am ($45 +BF) through Eventbrite, which includes a tasting of Stone & Wood’s seasonal limited Stone Beer. Ticket sales contribute to the donation amount for the chosen local charity.
