The Byron Bay Triathlon

You are here

The Byron Bay Triathlon is back, and this year’s event is gearing up to be better than ever.

Triathlon in Byron Bay is steeped in history and 2019 is its 24th year. The event runs a variety of distances from Olympic to Sprint and attracts around 1,200 competitors from many different countries.

The Byron Bay Tri is regarded by many as one of the friendliest triathlons on the coast. Competitors in the Olympic distance enjoy a 1.5km ocean swim in the crystal clear, tranquil waters of Byron Bay; a 40km cycle through the CBD and out through the gently rolling hills to Suffolk Park; then top it all off with a run along the foreshore, under the picturesque Byron Bay Lighthouse.

It also signals as one of the last events on the QLD/NSW Triathlon calendar. As a result, it is often seen as an end of season party for many competitors with a big party on the Saturday night. Due to its fantastic location, many competitors also bring their family, stay for a long weekend and relax in the beautiful Byron Shire.
