The sooner you book, the bigger choice you'll have to choose from. Most accommodation in Byron Bay gets completely booked out over the Easter long weekend... the bigger the group the harder it will get.
If you need a house, decide if you want to book direct or use an agent. It can be easier using a booking agent, but it can be costly because over the festival period they will add properties to their books that usually take bookings direct - which often means the booking commission gets added to the tariff (we know some people paid an extra $500 last year by booking through an agent!).
