Brunswick Heads Kites & Bikes Festival

The streets and skies of Brunswick Heads will come alive on Sunday 5 of November, 2006 for the 5th annual Kites and Bikes Festival.

The day is packed full of visual treats, kite-making and bike-maintenance workshops, rides, kite displays, decorated bike parade, stalls, food, live entertainment and loads more activities for fun lovers and thrill seekers of all ages to enjoy in the sparkling sunshine.

Giant kites of all shapes and sizes will be flown at the beach as Michael Richards and his team from Kite Magic will again bring some of Australia’s largest kites! Come down and fly your own kite or better still, make your own kite! Kite making and decorating workshops will be running all day in the housie shed for adults and children.

This year we are planning exhibitions of bike and skateboard tricks to wow the whole family! There will be bike safety, prizes for decorated bikes in several categories as well as road closures for kid’s riding pleasure!

Halloween in Byron

It’s almost the end of October and my kids are getting excited about Trick-or-Treating next Tuesday. We’ve been doing it for the past few years - plenty of homes have treats on offer and more and more kids are doing it.

This year the local supermarket even had ‘Holloween Pumpkins’ - I had to get one;

Jack-o-Lantern

I also saw a few posters for ‘Haloween’ events in Byron Bay;

One for Cocomangas night club.

One for a Hardcore all ages show featuring Parkway Drive

Happy Halloween

RHUM (sounds just like rum) invites you to dive down the rabbit hole

Question:  What exactly happened when Alice tumbled down the rabbit hole?
Answer:    She entered Wonderland, and all her world was new and wondrous.

Just like the cutting-edge, cyber-based, non-for-profit mob called Rabbit Hole Urban Music, or RHUM.  Over three years in the creating, RHUM is an events and media group committed to supporting, empowering original and independent music.  Whether it be home grown Aussies or imported touring artists, RHUM connects performers with their target audience, media and advertisers via innovative marketing techniques and unique events. It’s a wonderland where music and people take priority over profits, and change and innovation are the modus operandi.

“Ingenious, independent music needs ingenious, independent promotion.  We’re committed to strengthening the perception of quality original music, and we’ll use every medium to achieve this,” says Raquel Woodfield, founder of RHUM.  Years in the music industry and media marketing in Sydney and overseas demonstrated to Raquel the foibles of the mainstream labels for emerging artists.  Now based in her hometown of Ballina, she feels this is the right time and place to launch the deeply independent, totally networked RHUM concept to Australia.

The time to join up and get informed and involved with RHUM is now!  Our prize-packed music newsletter Curiouser & Curiouser will be launched on November 2nd. And we’re giving out truckloads of free subscriptions to members who join up before the end of October!  Curiouser & Curiouser is the essential music newsletter.  It’s brimming with deeply desirable prizes for RHUM members, plus exclusive RHUM feature stories, interviews, gig updates and reviews.

If you join RHUM now, you have a chance to win a whole newsletter launch prize party and be in the ongoing draw for CD giveaways, tickets to gigs, festivals and events over the summer all over Australia!

To become a member of the best-informed mob in Australia, just join RHUM today.  Simply log onto www.rhum.org.au. Click on RHUM members and enter your details in the members’ section.

So be quick! Good luck, see you down the Rabbit Hole!!!!

Film Festival; a chance to show how creative we are.

There are so many creative minds in the Byron shire, and every few months we have a chance to show off, not only how lucky we are to live here, but how lucky we are to have a place that inspires us all to be creative. Just look at the Peaks of the border ranges in contrast to the flats of the ocean at Sunrise. Smell the wonderful smells flowing out the doors at some of our favorite little eateries, like Brown Sugar or Why Not?. Or listen to the sounds of one of the many street buskers jamming to the didgereedoo or swallowing fire on Jonson Street.

I don’t know about you, but all these things make me want to join in.

The chefs have the taste of Byron. The writers have the awesome writers festival. And us film makers have The Byron Film Festival.

All different structures are accepted. Many different topics will be covered, from surfing to environmentalism, politics to just plain sillyness. So, I write this now to remind anyone in the shire that if you have the urge to make a film, tell a story or express yourself visually: then get yourself in to the Byron Bay Film Festival.

All the info is located on their website. It tells you how to enter. And what to do. When it is and where it is.

And you can check out byrons screenworks if you need to find some people to help you get your movie together or contact the Byron Bay Film Artists Coop to meet up with some people with the equipment, the skills and the Enthusiasm to get your idea across.

The BBFF is a great chance for thousands of unique visitors to see your works!!

Another Glimpse of Summer on our Beautiful Beaches

 tajd061006IMG_1717

Tallows Beach, October 5th. The surf was small, about 2 foot, but looked like fun. There were loads of people around.

The winds started out Moderate from the North West and then swung NE, like an average summers day,  but it didnt take long for a Southerly Change to come through and switch it up.

The Good News: Looks like summer is on its way. The girls were out in bikinis… and the boys in the boardies.

The even better news: The banks along Tallows are looking pretty good, so it could be a pumpin summer of fun.

PS. Check out this girl on the Mal, she is absolutely ripping. Showing the guys how its done! SICK!

All I can say is: Get out there. If you think we caught you? Check the resinmonkey archive.
