1974 - Peter Finger
"I have six more pics... They are not brilliant, photographically, but may be of interest in the historic sense. The quality is a bit ordinary, as these are scans of Polaroid transfers from the original slides. They were taken in May, 1974 - a lot has changed since then..."
I have included Peter's descriptions for each photo.
Dont miss Peter's other Photos! Peter Finger can be contacted by email.

This first one is of Wategos, taken from the flat we were
staying in. The houses are still there, but there are so many more, now, and
the trees have grown. Note in the bottom left corner, what is now Rae's on
Wategos, under construction.

The next one is taken from Wategos. Note once again the lack of
trees. On the right is what is now Rae's on Wategos (under construction).
From memory, it started life as a South American restaurant called "The
Argentine Ant".

This one is taken looking down Jonson St. from about opposite
where the Beach Hotel bottle shop now stands. The buildings on the right are
where the Hog's Breath Cafe is and you can see at the intersection, the
pertol station where Bay Action is now. I'm pretty sure the building on the
left, opposite the Valiant, might be the great cafe/take away shop called
"The Rib Cage".

Lucky last was actually taken up near Kingscliffe, but I thought the building looked good and summed up the Byron area. The sign reads "SLOW naked ladies cross here".
